Project Reveal: Bathroom Update

I've been teasing about the new project that I'm currently working on, and I've decided today to let you in on a little bit of the progress. So, assuming that you've read the title of this post, you'll know that the project that I'm working on is our main bathroom. When we first moved in, it looked like this...

And until recently, it looked like this...

When we first took possesion of our home last year, we swapped out the main bathroom laminate counters with a black granite, changed the standard sink to a square undermount one, replaced the tap, and installed a new light fixture. The light fixture was 100% necessary since we had the builder omit the standard bar lighting so we could install our own. We also changed the flushmount light over the toilet. Other than these changes, the bathroom stayed as is. I know, you're probably thinking that those are significant changes to just be glossed over, and you're right. Adding the granite and new sink/faucet were big changes, but with the ugly beige paint (that I've complained about on several occasions since it's still in 85% of the house) on the walls and the equally ugly standard cabinet hardware, I had a hard time looking past the fact that this room was far from where I wanted it to be. My hubby didn't seem to mind all that much, since his reasoning was "it's not my bathroom". And true enough, it wasn't. Having our own ensuite and not yet having kids, meant that this room was definitely underutilized. But, why should that stop me from updating a room, right?!

The first step to the update, was painting over the beige with a serene and calming shade of green-grey. Enter Sea Haze by Benjamin Moore. LOVES IT! I have actually had the paint sample pinned up on my board in my home office for months! Scratch that - make that almost a year!

So, after a few nights last week painting away, here's where she stands (sorry for the mess and the crappy pic - we're still very much in the middle of the update and had no power in the bathroom when this shot was taken)...

What do you think? I know, it's hard to tell right now with the lack of accessories, proper lighting, etc., but I can already tell that this room will be peaceful and beautiful when I'm done with it.

I'll be back this week with some more updates, including why we had to replace the vanity light, and choosing new cabinet hardware. Plus, I'll give you a sneak peek at how we used glass tile in an interesting way!
