What If The Spice Girls Were Interior Designers...

The other day I was chatting with a coworker and she was asking me about two lamps (one table and one floor) that she had recently bought - chrome, hanging crystals, black shade (beautiful - you can see them here and here). She wanted to put both of them in her bedroom, but I cautioned her on that since these lamps are statement pieces and putting both in the same room would feel a little "Posh Spice".

That got me thinking. What if the Spice Girls took up interior design after their careers had started to fizzle? What if each of these ladies designed rooms based on their personalities? How could these themes transcend into contemporary or modern rooms?

(From left to right: Sporty Spice (Mel Chisholm), Posh Spice (Victoria Beckham), Ginger Spice (Geri Halliwell), Baby Spice (Emma Bunton), Scary Spice (Melanie Brown)

Let's take a peek, shall we?

1. Posh Spice

Ah, Mrs. Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice. How I do miss your sultry look while you do not dare to smile. You always did wear black, pose like the vixen you are, and give your signature pout. So, what do your rooms look like? I bet they're dramatic, elegant, and chic.

2. Scary Spice

I was never a huge fan of Scary Spice (and no, it's not because she scared me). I definitely think she has the best voice out of the bunch. But, the leopard print was something else entirely. She had animal print pants that were outta control (long before LMFAO existed). So, with her new career as an interior designer, I am fairly certain that she would have learned her lesson about "less is more", and toned it down a notch or two.

3. Ginger Spice

Geri Halliwell and all that ginger she exuded, was my favourite spicy lady in the group. She was a true diva in bright reds and oranges, pleather and feathers, union jacks and stars and stripes. She craved being the center of attention with those flaming red locks of hers. So, how do you think she would have designed a room? I bet she wasn't afraid of colour by any means.

4. Baby Spice

Those signature pigtails and long blond hair made Baby Spice the innocent-looking one of this girl squad (and I use the word innocent loosely). She was always pairing short baby doll dresses in pastels with knee-high platform boots. I can imagine she would use soft colours, metallic accents, and layers of dreamy fabrics to emphasize her carefree vibe. In other words, a nice place to take a nap.

5. Sporty Spice

The 90's was a time when Adidas stripes and track suits ruled the world. And Sporty Spice was the idol behind this fad. Or did the fad make the Spice? I guess this is a classic chicken versus egg question. In any event, Mel C. was the epitome of comfy attire, washboard abs, and girl-next-door-I-wouldn't-want-to-meet-in-an-alley attitude. She really was the one who wore the pants in this group. So, how would she decorate rooms if she was driving the design tank?

So, if you want to "Spice Up Your Life" and are a "Wannabe" interior decorator, use these rooms as your inspiration (sorry, I couldn't help myself - the puns are just too easy).

  1. Great post idea! Gotta love the Spice Girls <3
It would be interesting to know what their actual homes look like. I'm sure they appear in some sort of magazine...
